All data comes from CourtListener, maintained by the Free Law Project. It is one of the most comprehensive public databases of U.S. federal judicial information.
What courts are covered?
CourtListener covers all Article III federal courts: U.S. district courts, circuit courts of appeals, and the Supreme Court, as well as many bankruptcy and specialty courts.
What does the Senate confirmation vote show?
It shows the final floor vote in the U.S. Senate on the judge’s nomination. A higher yes-vote percentage generally indicates more bipartisan support. Some recent nominees have been confirmed by simple majority after rules changes.
Who appoints federal judges?
Under Article II of the Constitution, the President nominates federal judges and the Senate confirms them. All Article III judges serve lifetime appointments during good behavior.
How current is the data?
Judge profiles are cached for 24 hours. Search results are cached for 1 hour. CourtListener updates their database continuously.
